1) I said to myself that this year, I would start documenting stuff that I created no matter how small or silly-seeming, so here’s my fills (so far?) for the Three Sentence Ficathon 2021 (here and new post here):

top seven comfort movies

1) The Lion King 1994 – favorite Disney movie for as long as I can remember. It’s just perfect. Still well up during the final walk up Pride Rock, without fail. Was basically a disaster watching the musical.

2) Dogfight – frankly, it’s a miracle the movie even works with the premise, and yet it does. I won’t even try to parse how; I just love watching Lili Taylor and River Phoenix hash it out and walk it out and kiss it out again…and again…and again..

3) Princess Mononoke – I got it as a Christmas present when I was fourteen and fell head over heels immediately, a chasing-dragons-wakened-imagination type of love. I mean, deer gods! Wolves in mystical forests! Feral female lead and complicated lady villain! A meet-cute that involves holding the male lead at knife-point while he dazedly calls her beautiful! Truly id-forming.

4) Notting Hill – film equivalent of baked goods, a hot drink, and a fuzzy old sweater.

5) Legally Blonde – "I’ll show you how valuable Elle Woods can be!" I could watch that montage and the final trial over and over again. Well, I mean, I have – along with the whole, fabulous rest of the movie.

6) Stand By Me – not sure what it says about me that my favorite summer film involves kids setting out to find a dead body.

7) Warm Bodies – post apocalypse aesthetic, awesome soundtrack, stupidly cute zombie Nic Hoult? Yesss. I don’t normally like zombies as a trope, and yet.
